The UN-brokered Presidential Council has condemned the ongoing escalation in Benghazi that started on Friday including the airstrikes and mortar shelling that caused a lot of material damage in private and public properties.

In a statement on Saturday, the Presidential Council called for
calm and immediate ceasefire, which it said will lead the country nowhere but will only add to the fragmentation and division.

It indicated that the role of the security departments of the Interior Ministry in Benghazi is only securing the city and the residents, adding that any attack on them is an attack on state institutions.
