Libya’s coastguards intercepted Tuesday about 160 Europe-bound migrants, including dozens of children and women off Al-Khoms shores.

The Libyan Navy Spokesman Ayoub Qassim told Alnabaa TV Channel that a boat carrying 158 passengers including 34 women and nine children was stopped off the coast off the western city of Al- Khoms.

Qassim added that the migrants were given humanitarian and medical aid,
then were taken to a migrants shelter center in Al-Khoms city.

Libyan authorities have stepped up efforts to stem the flow of migrants with Italian assistance.
